With a voice like whiskey and a laugh like pure joy, Janis Joplin took the music scene by storm. Simultaneously rough and vulnerable, Joplin was dubbed the Queen of Rock n’ Roll, proving music wasn’t just a man’s world anymore. Packed with classic songs (“Piece of My Heart, “Summertime,” “Mercedes Benz”), the show also shines the spotlight on trailblazers who influenced Janis – like Bessie Smith, Etta James and Aretha Franklin.

Produced in association with Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater in Washington, D.C., with Daniel Chilewich and Todd Gershwin of One Night Productions, the Estate of Janis Joplin & Jeffrey Jampol for JAM, Inc.

...If you're a fan of the rock goddess, I highly recommend you check this show more out. It's unbelievably close to the real thing.

- Rebecca C., Cleveland

My girlfriend and I really enjoyed the show more very much. Mary Bridget Davies is just awesome as Janis Joplin.

- Jay, Cleveland

A truly outstanding performance by Mary Bridget Davies and cast!! Having seen Janis and more Big Brother at Public Hall in the late 60's and "Love, Janis" at Playhouse in the late 90's, I can honestly say that this show is as close to the "Real McCoy" as you're ever going to get! Anyone who professes to love great rock and roll, along with the blues, should not miss this tremendous event! Besides the dynamite voices, the band, the sets, the lighting and especially the sound were all 10/10!!

- Dr. Don Herman, Pepper Pike, Ohio

This was by far the best show we have seen in years. Mary Bridget more Davies deserves a Tony for her amazing performance! Sabrina Elayne Carten was superb, as well. The musicians were excellent. As a former "flower child" who grew up listening to the greatest music of all time, I can't thank you enough for sharing Janis with us. It was an evening that will remain with me forever. I want to see it again and again.

- Sue Seeds, Lakewood, Ohio

The performance by Mary Bridget Davies was spectacular. I truley felt as if I was more watching the real Janis. Thank you Mary for a wonderful night of great entertainment

- Dave LePore - Laura Oberdoester, Mayfield Hts.

- pat, seville

WOW...That's all I can say. I can't beleive the "realness" of this show. more I really felt like I was part of Janis' life. Mary Bridget Davies did an awesome job and I couldn't imagine anyone else as a better Janis! Thank You cast...and band. YOU WERE AMAZING. I wanted to light a lighter at the end for an encore...really felt like we were at a live show! It was my anniversary; my husband and myself LOVED the show and loved spending our anniversary with Janis.

- Angel, Avon Lake

Kathy and I went to the Tuesday (8/7) show for

Show was fantastic - went back and saw it again! Theatre is beautiful! more Like the small theatre atmophere - every seat is fantastic.

- md, chagrin falls

This was one of the very best shows I have seen. If you closed more your eyes, you would swear Janis was still alive and singing in the theatre. If you are a Janis fan, this is truly an event not to be missed. The lady who played Janis was awesome, but so was the lady who sang the parts of the various artists who influenced Janis. This second lady had some serious pipes! The two hours seemed like about 10 minutes, and that is with several standing ovations for the performers!

- adf, Cleveland

It was like spending an evening with Janis really. Such good memories and and more fun times remembered through her music and voice!

- Dolly McK, Lagrange

Saw One Night with Janis Saturday afternoon...all I can say is WOW, WHAT A SHOW. more Ms. Davies is a true star. Her voice is incredible. I swear I was listening to Janis herself. The best show we have seen in a long time. My very reserved 40 year more old daughter was in town and not sure whether she would like "this Janis Joplin person". My daughter was in awe. The vocals, the band - WOW. We were on our feet and clapping the entire show. Non stop entertainment. I am thinking of going back. We loved it. Only wished the CD was from the show. - PB, Beachwood

Sat in 1st row at the stage and was amazed by Mary Bridget Davies and more the rest of performers like Sabrina Carten. I felt like I was seeing the real Janis, she sang all hits so perfectly with the help of the incredible band. I would strongly recommend this show and would go again next year.

this was a very good show i enjoyed it and would see it again!

- j, white, cleveland

I've seen hundreds of live shows, and this is absolutely one of the best. more Bridget Davies is a superstar who may be Janis Joplin reincarnated. You honestly have to see her performance to believe it. If you have any appreciation for music (not just rock) history and the arts, this is a must see.

- JW, Cleveland

What a spectacular performance!! From Mary Bridget Davies to the band to back up more singers!!! every last one of them was so moving---I had chills just listening to them. Can't imagine the woman originally cast as Janis could have topped Mary!!! How lucky were we to have had the opportunity to hear her interpretation of Janis!!! By far the best thing I've seen at PHS this season!

- Laura, Strongsville

My friends and I thought it was the BEST SHOW we've seen in a long more time, and we are season ticket holders for the Broadway Series at Playhouse Square. The Allen theater is a fantastic venue.

Wow! Wow! Wow! Honestly I have never been a super big fan of Janis more Joplin, but after seeing and hearing Mary I am changed. She was Janis, heart and soul. Thank you for great night of theatre!

- Tammy O'Reilly, La Grange, IL

What a fabulous show! Completely entertaining from start to finish.

Best show I have seen in years. Totally engrossing and entertaining. Felt I more was seeing and hearing Janis and Aretha. The singers and musicans were outstanding, every last one of them. No weak points in this show. We saw the understudy and, frankly, I can't believe anyone could do this part better. Just an outstanding performance. Will probably attend again before it closes. Highest recomendation to anyone who enjoys Janis, music and/or just a tremendous production. Please go, you won't regrit it unless you don't.

- Warren Johnston, Stow

One of the best shows around. Mary Bridget Davies made you believe Janis Joplin was more performing. The singer that performed her mentor has an awesome voice.

- Angie, Euclid, Oh

My wife and I enjoyed this show very much. We had both seen Love,Janis more in 2005 and this show was much more elaborate and the musical numbers were planned and performed much more professionally. The stage show and set-up was also fantastic. All of the performers were great, especially the vocalists. Mary Bridget Davis was fantastic, as per usual. Overall a great, great experience.

- David Hiller, Madison

AWESOME, this girl from Lakewood did a fantastic job, if you closed your eyes you more would think it was Janis. We would definitley see it again.

I remember thoroughly enjoying Mary Bridget sing with the Fairview High School jazz band. She outshined the musicians back then too.

- Tom, Fairview Park

My wife I and thoroughly enjoyed the show. Closing your eyes you thought Janis was more back. The last part of the show when Janis entered from above took my breath away. My lady Janis lived another day thank you thank you.

- PMN, Parma

Mary Bridget Davies was spectacular! She had the mannerisms & singing style of Janis more "mastered"! Sabrina Elayne Carten was great as well! A very entertaining & moving show!

- MS, Richfield, OH

We were fortunate enough to see this show last night. It is a theatrical experience more par excellence! We expected a musical and got a concert. The talent on stage (both performers and musicians) is outstanding. The run concludes August 19 and I encourage you to see it. This is one of those things you find to be so extraordinary you just want to share it with all you know.

This is an evening of the blues you will not soon forget. I was out of my seat lots and could not get the smile off my face or stop my feet/legs from keeping time. Janis’ and surprise guest Aretha’s voices will take your breath away. Most of your old favorites are performed.

Do yourself a big favor and go see it. If you have not seen The Play House’s new home, that will double the treat. A great highlight of your 2012 Summer awaits!

- Gary, Shaker Heights

AWESOME Show! It was just like being at a Janis Joplin concert! more I recommend it to anyone who is a Joplin fan!

- JD, Euclid

I have to say this is one of the best shows I have ever seen. more I didnt know exactly what to expect but was blown away by the production. The girl who played Janis was awesome!!! She really let you see what a tough but really heartfelt person she was. I couldnt talk about the show without getting a bit choked up it sounds silly but you saw how much she loved her music family and how much she wanted to be loved. And the woman who played the Bessie Smith and other blues ladies parts was incredible and all the other singers and musicians. The girl who Played Janis I say again was AWESOME. Thanks for a wonderful theatre experience and for a beautiful venue. I hope to maybe see it once more before the show leaves or if not when it hopefully comes back again. I have mentioned it to a lot of people GO if you want a great evening. Thanks Playhouse Square for your versatile shows.

- Barb Adams, Cleveland OH

The best musical I've ever seen! Simply outstanding performance by the whole cast.

- Gary, Painesville

Wonderful.....thought Janis was back with us!

- RM, Cleveland, OH

Sally and I spent the perfect anniversary with Janis conjured by the spectacular Mary Bridget more Davies, the same lady who knocked us out with Love, Janis in '99! That play premiered in C Town and did 2 years in NYC...this one is even better! The band was fabulous, and co-star Sabrina Elayne Carten sang the parts of Janis' heroines Bessie Smith, Odetta, and Aretha was even better if that is possible...at first only us and two rows of lesbians boogied, but when the two stars belted out "Ball and Chain" a sea of old white people rose like a sunami! When this sweetness comes your way, go twice!

- Mark and Long Tall Sally, Cleveland

Totally capitivating, Mary Bridget Davies (Janis) was spot on! She gave me goose bumps on more several occasions with her bluesy-sultry voice

- Cindy Jakubczak, Parma, Ohio

It was an awesome show! And the Allen Theatre is an excellent venue for more a show like this. I am looking forward to going there again soon.

- TP, Eastlake

Mary Bridget Davies was fabulous! Her voice amazing. Sabrina Elayne Carten was incredible! more The band and the rest of the case were wonderful. This is truly a show worth seeing!

- lw, Willoughby

Double WOW!! A wonderfully well done performance and production at the Cleveland Play House! more

- JC, Strongsville, OH

It blew me and everyone in the audience away. I actually was not a more huge Joplin fan until after the show. Mary was incredible. Saw it twice!

- Dawn Maksin, Parma

My 16 year old niece and I drove from NH to Cleveland, just to see more this show. We were not disappointed. Amazing performance by all. By the end of the show we thought we were actually listening to Janis, Bessie, Etta and Aretha. And the band was fantastic. Well worth the 24 hour round trip drive.

- L.T., New Boston, NH

Great show. Not a bad seat in the theater. If you love Janis, more this is a MUST see.

- KB, Akron, OH

- Bob, Munroe Falls

This was our first time at the Allen Theatre and definitely won't be our last! more The theatre's intimacy made a brilliant show over the top!!!!

- Cheryl B, Medina, OH

close your eyes and you think you are listening to Janis... she is present

- mjmme, Westlake

We absolutely loved it! We were in awe of the quality of the performers. "Janis" more & "Blues Lady" were unbelievable (as one man in the audience shouted out). It brought back memories of another amazing show we saw 20 some years ago... My Arms are Too Short to Box with God" starring Patti LaBelle.

- Kim & Linda, Avon

Wow!!!What a great show!! The music just blew me away!!!! Absolutely loved it!!! more Highly recommend it!!!

- Adrienne R, Medina, Ohio

Fantastic! I feel I saw Janis singing. Great band, great show. Fabulous.

One of the best shows I have ever seen. I really thought it was more "Janis" on stage. Loved the audience interaction and the other blues singer was tremendous. What a great show.

- Deb Howell, Medina, OH

WOW...what a show. This was one of the best shows we have seen. more Mary Bridget Davies was fantastic in her role as Janis. The rest of the cast was fabulous. This is a must see show! Thank you Cleveland Playhouse for bringing us this show...FANTASTIC!

I was not even a Janis lover, but the story , the passion, the sounds, the setting were superb .

- dg, Cleveland

I went to see One Night with Janis Joplin last Friday and was really blown more away; it definitely exceeded my expectations. Thanks for al you do at CPH!

- Gina C., Cleveland

What a wonderful theatre...so beautiful inside and every seat is a good seat. The more production was terrific. A history lesson of the Blues that inspired us to download Bessie Smith, the Rondettes, Aretha Franklin and of course, Janis Jopin's music. "Janis" built the production to a crescendo just the way Janis Joplin did in real life. And how cool was it for Bend natives to find out the whole production started in Portland, Oregon!

- Meri, Bend, Oregon

we saw and loved love janis and this show was even more spectacular. The lead more and the rest of the cast were fabulous

- Bob M, North Olmsted

What an amazing show!

Absolutely brillant, excellent cast!

more />

So much energy, loved the audience participation!

A must see even if you aren't a Janis fan!

- Lori and Bruce, Columbia Station

i was lucky enough to see janis in concert in october 1968 and mentioned that more to one of the ushers. after the show she asked me how it compared. i said mary bridget davies absolutely nailed it....the voice, the energy, the emotions. i have told people that sometimes the only reason i wasn't screaming and cheering after a song was because i was speechless. if i closed my eyes and just listened, it was 1968 all over again. this is the best show i can remember seeing. i would recommend it to everyone.

- Pat Murphy, Sagamore Hills OH

We saw Mary Bridget Davies a few years ago at Beachland when she sang with more Big Brother Holding Company. When I saw her name as the replacement for Janis, I knew I had to see the show. She was absolutely wonderful! I truly felt like a spent the night with Janis! I particularly enjoyed the occasional appearance of Janis's "influences." Just a fabulous show! GO SEE IT!

- js, elyria

Saw the Sunday 7/29 show with "understudy" Mary Bridget Davies as Janis.

No disrespect to Ms. Stephani, as I have not seen her in the role, but I cannot imagine anyone turning in a better performance than MBD. I honest to God thought I was listening to Janis Joplin. An absolutely outstanding performance.

Great band. Great venue. Great show!

- JMN, Cuyahoga Falls

Took two younger generations of my family with me to the show. I wanted them more to experience Janis talant as I did in my younger years. They loved it. Mary Bridget Davies brought down the house with her vocals. Wonderful

- Rick, Wooster

This was a bday present from my daughter. Her and I attended the show on more my bday and it was the best ever. The young lady that protrayed Janis did such a great job of her. I was alive when Janis was and I truly remember and loved her songs to this day. The show was more than I imagined and I loved it. Thank you for such a wonderful nite!

- Brenda Ballard, Akron Ohio

One word would do it

- DJF, Elyria

At first disappointed that the advertised lead was not performing the night we saw it more (July 28) we could not imagine any one doing a more authentic interpretation of Janis than Mary Bridget Davies. The Soul Singer was killer as well. The staging was intimate and evocative of the late 60's feel and the band was great. No wonder the crowd was on it's feet most of the show!

- DD, Cleveland Heights OH

Well worth it. Spoke about it for day's. Just a few days remaining. Do not more miss it.

- Donna, Broadview heights

I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to get as close as I will more ever get to experience Janis, Bessie, Odetta, all of them, but especially Janis. Mary Bridgette will never know how much her performance ment to meant to me and my 12 yr old daughter (Aryana.) I was emotional through the whole concert. It has always hurt my heart that I will never be able to see Janis perform, and I have spent my whole life longing too. Watching my daughter feel what I have always felt when listening to her is probably one the coolest and most coolest things I have ever experienced. I Thank Mary Bridgette, Sabrina, and of course the band members from the bottom of my heart for getting me so close to her. I am telling everyone who will listen me to not miss this opportunity. I will close this by saying that you have to experience it for yourself, words are insufficient.

- dawn & aryana, akron

FANTASTIC!!!! Mary Davies and Sabrina Carten were AWESOME! The band and backup vocals were superb more too. We thought we were actually listening to Janis. Would love to see the performance again and wish I could have bought a CD of the shows performance.

- Mike & Laurie, Avon Lake

The performances of the main singers and band were absolutely amazing. The play more itself needed more of a storyline. We didn't feel that we learned that much more about Janis than we knew walking in. Add more information and it could be a real hit!

- JG, Chagrin Falls

I saw the real Janis on August 26, 1969 at Blossom where she played after more being at Woodstock the prior weekend. There weren't many people there that night and almost no one in the pavilion seats. Janis invited anyone down that wanted to especially any Hells Angels in the crowd - there weren't any. She drank an entire bottle of SC the first act and came out with another for the second act. I stood right in front of her the entire time and even got on stage and followed her to her dressing room before I was stopped just as she opened the door.

I would say Mary B has a better voice but there was something about the real JJ that no one could duplicate. I have to say the her version of Ball and Chains is unforgetable and worth the money just for that one song. I could have done without the other singer - I would have liked only Janis to sing and sing.

I have always loved Janis and always will. She touched my soul.

- Walt Oshinsky, Akron Ohio

If you loved Joplin, you will love this. some monologs still need some work, more but the music is outstanding...both vocals and instrumentals. Great concept relating her songs to her inspirations and featuring the performance of both.

- SN, Broadview Heights

The show was great. I am a big Janis fan. Ms. Davies looked more and sang so much like the late Janis. She was outstanding. I liked the acknowledgements re Bessie Smith, Etta James and Aretha Franklin, and the songs. (My partner did not, though.) However, I would have liked some of the time which was spent on their songs used to hear "Janis" sing more. Band was terrific too. Good show. WOW-- The Allen Theatre is absolutely gorgeous and the intimate atmosphere terrific.

a rollicking evening with the audience standing and shouting.

a VERY good time was had by all. truly a 'SHOW'

ONE NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN is not enough! RUN! Do not walk to more see this STANDING ROOM ONLY SHOW. The Wednesday, August 1, 2012 (Opening night performance) was stellar! Why? Mary Bridget Davies as the new Janis Joplin of this production is engaging, honest, vulnerable and at turns quite humorous...she paces her vocas intelligently and releases a tidal wave of searing vocal chops in the second act to two standing ovations well before the conclusion of the second act SIMPLY...Mary Bridget Davies delivers Janis Joplin. Sabrina Elayne Carten is OUTSTANDING, OUTSTANDING, OUTSTANDING! For those of you who are fans of Porgy & Bess...her portrayal of Maria is the Maria of record...catch her New York City Opera Live at Lincoln Center performance on DVD. I digress...Sabrina Elayne Carten's opening night performance of Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin, Bessie Smith and others is spell-binding, sexy and smoldering. My favorite moment in this show was subdued and sublime as Davies and Carten deliver in Little Girl Blue. Enough of these two. The duo of Laura Carbonell and Shinnerrie Jackson "rock the house" alone and together in their superb background vocals. Lastly...THE BAND of One Night With Janis Joplin kick it into high gear from start to finish in this show...what a marvelous collaboration of sonics between singers and instumentalists giving space for all to do their thing and bring us to our feet! Kudos to Michael Bloom for bringing One Night With janis to Cleveland!

Great show. entertaining yet sad. Bessie/Etta/Aretha portrayer was spectacular.

- Joe K, Avon Lake

Possibly the best show that I have ever seen at Playhouse Square and I'm a more season ticket subscriber. Mary Bridget was truly channeling Janis. Highly recommend this show to everyone!

- Nell S, Fairview Park

My wife, who in not really a Janis fan said this waw one of the more best concerts shows she has ever attended. The two lead singers were fantastic.

- RRY, Aurora

I have seen countless live shows in my life and this one blew me away more like no other. The emotions ran deep as I closed my eyes and felt like Janice's soul was singing the blues in front of me!

- S. Marinuzzi, Cleveland

Really great show. Loved everything about it, especially the 2 lead vocalists. Way more than more I expected. Never saw so many senior citizens in one place before, including myself. The real Janis should have been there with us.
