| CLEVELAND PLAY HOUSE SOUND DEPARTMENT |
Resident Designer
Jim Swonger (x278) email: jswonger@clevelandplayhouse.com
The Sound Department consists of the Resident Sound Designer, James Swonger, and one sound board operator for Drury and Bolton theaters. We have permanent sound systems installed in each theater with floating equipment to round out each design. Our primary playback system for the mainstages is Stage Research’s SFX 5.6 build 24, using Echo Gina cards for 16 channels of audio playback.
BOLTON THEATRE
We use a L,R,C main system for front of house with the Left and Right augmented with 3 pairs of delayed speakers along the sides of the theater. We also use these sides for a delayed feed from shotgun microphones for vocal enhancement at the back of the house. The center speaker is an EV Sx500 and the others are Sx200’s. We also have two dual 18” subwoofers that can be used for effects.
There is a backstage and dressing room monitor/paging system. We have headset stations in most places in the theater and a Clear-com 2-channel system.
Our mixing console for this space is an Allen-Heath GL4000.
DRURY THEATRE
We use a Left-Right sound system for front of house, with delayed speakers for under balcony. The front of house speakers are EV Sx200’s. We also have side and rear speakers for sound effects. We also have two single 18” subwoofers that can be used for effects.
There is a backstage and dressing room monitor/paging system. We have headset stations in most places in the theater and a Clear-com 2-channel system.
Our mixing console for this space is an Allen-Heath GL2200, but we have moved the GL4000 over for musicals in the Drury Theater.
BROOKS THEATRE
There is a Left-Right speaker system for front of house, using Ramsa Speakers and two speakers onstage for sound effects. There is no permanent playback/mixer system but we do have small mixers and CD, minidisk, and Kset playback available. There is a backstage and dressing room monitor system. There is a headset in the booth and one backstage for communication.
STUDIO ONE THEATRE
There are 4 EV Sx80 speakers hung in the four corners of the grid. There is no permanent playback/mixer system but we do have small mixers and CD, minidisk, and Kset playback available. There is a backstage and dressing room monitor system.
